The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games announced the concept for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Torch Relay on Friday, December 21st.
The concept will be:
“Share Your Light”.
Tokyo 2020 has expressed that one legacy that they hope to leave is the achievement of a fully-inclusive society, and want to show the world that “The Paralympic flame is for everyone – the accumulation of everyone’s passion for the Paralympic Games generates the flame”.
The Paralympic Torch Relay route will wind its way through the prefectures hosting events including Saitama, Chiba and Shizuoka prefectures, and end in Tokyo. Though the route is limited to those areas, the committee has arranged for participation from prefectures from across the country.
As the Paralympics are often an after thought to many, it is exciting to hear from the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games that they promise to maintain the momentum of the festivities during the transition period after the Olympics and then into the Paralympics.
In the press release the committee stated:
” [they aim to] communicate the spirit and values of the Paralympics: Courage, Determination, Inspiration and Equality. It is additionally hoped the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will give everyone an opportunity to reflect on a new partnership between humans, and between humans and society, and help everyone to realise that there is ‘unity in diversity’.”
