Hibari hostel, a machiya (traditional Japanese house) which was built in 1933, is located Suzaku area which is just one stop from Kyoto station.
The hostel has recently been renovated by the owners (an occupational therapist) in the hope of allowing wheelchair users to enjoy the charm of staying in a machiya house while in Kyoto.
Accessibility
The superior room on the first floor, entrance / reception, kitchen, toilet, and shower room are completely smooth. The sliding entrance door has an effective width of 85cm.
The width of corridor in front of toilet and superior room is 120cm. The kitchen and sink area has been lowered (80cm) and has space to accommodate the knees and legs of wheelchair users.
There are 2 beds in superior room, one of which is an electric medical bed. The shower room and toilet on the first floor have grab rails.
