KAMENOI HOTEL Awajishima is a seaside resort located on the northern coast of Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture. Reopened in August 2025 after a major renovation, the hotel combines traditional Japanese hospitality with modern design, inspired by the feeling of sailing across the sea. Its elevated location offers panoramic views of the Harima Nada Sea from nearly every room and public area.
The hotel features a wide variety of guest rooms. All rooms include amenities such as flat-screen TVs, air conditioning, bidet toilets, refrigerators, yukata robes, and toiletries.
Dining at the hotel centers around seasonal local ingredients, including Awaji’s famous onions and fresh seafood. Guests can enjoy a Japanese-style kaiseki dinner and a buffet breakfast at the newly renovated restaurant, which offers soft, ambient lighting and sea views.
For relaxation, the hotel offers spacious public baths, including both indoor and open-air options, using natural hot spring water. The baths are separated by gender and offer views over the sea.
Additional facilities include a souvenir shop, a karaoke room, and laundry area. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and on-site parking includes spaces for guests with disabilities. A free shuttle bus operates from the nearby Hokudan IC bus stop.
With its scenic location, ocean-facing hot springs, and wide range of guest services, KAMENOI HOTEL Awajishima provides a peaceful base for exploring the natural and cultural attractions of Awaji Island.
Accessibility
KAMENOI HOTEL Awajishima includes a number of accessibility features to support guests using wheelchairs or other mobility aids. Most key facilities – including the entrance, lobby, restaurant, and guest room floors – are step-free and allow smooth movement throughout the hotel. An elevator provides access between floors, and while some guest rooms are located at a distance, routes are navigable. Access to the large public bath is limited due to steps. The indoor bath on the 5th floor and the open-air bath on the 1st floor both have steps; the open-air bath requires climbing three stairs. While the hotel’s shuttle vehicle is not currently wheelchair accessible, staff can provide information on local taxi companies that offer wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
The hotel offers one accessible guest room: the “Ocean View Universal Room.” The room is spacious, allowing maneuverability with a wheelchair, and includes two low-profile twin beds with space between them. It can accommodate up to four guests, with additional sleeping options provided by an extra bed and a daybed. The seating area includes a round table with movable chairs, and a large window offers expansive views of the Harima Nada Sea. The floor is level and carpeted, and lighting controls and electrical outlets are placed at accessible heights.
The bathroom is a unit bath, with the bathtub and shower in a combined space. The toilet is equipped with handrails on both sides and has open space beside it to allow for side transfers. The sink is wall-mounted with space underneath to allow approach from a wheelchair. A grab bar is installed alongside the bathtub. A handheld, extendable shower is available, and a shower chair can be provided upon request with advance notice. The layout provides sufficient turning space for mobility devices.
A writing board or notepad is available at the front desk to support communication with guests who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Guests with visual impairments are welcome to stay with guide dogs. Staff are trained to assist and, when available, can provide guidance to guest rooms and shared facilities such as the restaurant or public baths.
No strong fragrances or aromatic products are used in shared spaces like the lobby or hallways. Vegetarian and halal meals are available, and dietary requirements can be discussed in advance. Lighting in guest rooms cannot be dimmed, and no additional noise-reducing measures are in place. Staff speak English and are available to support guest needs.
Hotel staff are happy to assist guests with disabilities and encourage guests to ask questions or make requests to ensure a comfortable stay.
