The International Paralympic Committee announced that five additional sports will be added to the live broadcast roster for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

The additional games brings live television coverage up to 21 sports – a new record for the Paralympic Games – as well as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.  Rights Holding Broadcasters Now have the permission to transmit these events live.

The recently added live broadcast sports are archery, canoe, equestrian, rowing and shooting. This will be the first time these Parasports will be broadcast live from the Paralympics.  The other sports allowed to be broadcast include:

  • Badminton
  • Boccia
  • Road cycling
  • Goalball
  • Triathlon
  • Marathon
  • Athletics
  • Track cycling
  • Football 5-a-side
  • Judo
  • Sitting volleyball
  • Swimming
  • Table tennis
  • Wheelchair basketball
  • Wheelchair rugby
  • Wheelchair tennis

Rights Holding Broadcasters will decide which sports to air in their respective countries.  So, be sure to contact your local broadcaster and encourage them to take advantage of these rights and air these events so you can cheer on your country!
