MIMARU Kyoto Shinmachi Sanjo is an apartment-style hotel in central Kyoto’s Nakagyo ward, about a five-minute walk from Karasuma Oike Station on the Kyoto City Subway Karasuma Line. The property has 78 non-smoking rooms, all designed for longer stays or group travel with full kitchens, in-room washer-dryers, and separate bathing and washstand areas. Room capacities range from four to six guests depending on the type, and connecting rooms can accommodate up to eight.
Room types include the Japanese Apartment with tatami flooring and futon bedding, the One-Bedroom Family Apartment with bunk beds for families, and larger Deluxe versions of both. A Japanese Apartment for 5 adds extra sleeping space, while the Connecting Family Apartment joins two rooms for bigger groups. There themed decorations inspired by the world of Pokemon, and an Accessible Japanese Apartment (35 m²) with universal design features.
Every room comes with an IH stovetop, refrigerator, microwave, cookware, dishes, and utensils, so guests can prepare their own meals. The central Kyoto location also puts a wide range of restaurants and cafes within walking distance.
The lobby includes a kids’ play space and seating area with tables. All rooms have washing machines. Other services include 24-hour security, luggage storage (free from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM on check-in and check-out days), luggage delivery arrangements, and multilingual staff support with access to an interpreter app. Free Wi-Fi, air purifiers, safety boxes, and washlet toilets are standard in all rooms.
The hotel sits along the route of the Gion Festival’s Yamahoko Junko parade, and floats pass directly in front of the building during the festival in July. Karasuma Oike Station connects to both the Karasuma Line and the Tozai Line, with direct access to Kyoto Station and the Higashiyama sightseeing district.

MIMARU Kyoto Shinmachi Sanjo is accessible throughout the property. The main entrance has automatic doors with a width of 150 cm and a flat interior, though there is a 6 cm step at the property boundary before the entrance a ramp is set up for wheelchair guests during their stay.
The lobby has sofas with low tables (height: 70 cm), and the front desk offers written communication support. Staff speak English, and multilingual team members are available depending on the shift. The hotel has prepared accessible route maps from the nearest station and offers a communication sheet system where guests can indicate their needs and request equipment.
One of the two elevators has a wheelchair-accessible control panel. The elevator car measures 130 cm by 140 cm with an 80 cm door width, and the elevator lobby provides 185 cm by 400 cm of maneuvering space. A multifunctional restroom on the first floor includes handrails, an ostomy-compatible wash basin, and a diaper changing table.
The Accessible Japanese Apartment is a 35 m² room that sleeps up to four guests with two single beds (200 cm x 100 cm) and two futons. The room entrance has a swinging door with a width of 85 cm and a minimal 0.5 cm threshold. Floors are flat throughout. The beds sit at 50 cm from floor to the bottom of the mattress, with 80 cm clearance between the two beds and 80 cm of space on the outer side. There is clearance beneath the beds for a portable floor-running lift. The room includes a kitchen with IH cooktop, and a tatami-style living space with a low table.
The bathroom has a separate bathing area and shower, with a threshold of less than 5 cm at the entrance. Grab bars are installed near the shower and bathing area, and a handheld showerhead adjusts between 60 cm and 150 cm in height. The bathtub is 45 cm high with a depth of 50 cm. The toilet has a grab bar on one side and an emergency call button mounted on the wall. The washbasin is wall-mounted with open space underneath so wheelchair users can roll up to the sink directly. The hotel offers free rental of a shower chair, freestanding handrail, and bath grip on a first-come basis.
Guide dog accommodation is available, and can escort visually impaired guests to their rooms when possible. Common areas do not have strong fragrances.
A detailed universal design route map is available from Karasuma Oike Station (Exit 3-2) to the hotel entrance. The route follows Oike-dori Street and takes approximately six minutes, with elevator access at the station and mostly flat sidewalks. There are short slopes of about 3 meters at a 5-degree incline on both sides of one pedestrian crossing.
